Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented by Jhpiego in partnership with ICRHK and the Machakos County Department of Health Services, the Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC) Project aimed to assess the feasibility, acceptability, fidelity, effectiveness, and sustainability of scaling up G-ANC as a model for delivering antenatal care. Conducted in 12 health facilities across Machakos County, this mixed-methods implementation research study evaluated the transition from individual to group-based ANC services, generating continuous evidence to guide implementation and scale-up efforts.
Impact
Through this project, ICRHK and partners:
- Strengthened evidence on the effectiveness and sustainability of group antenatal care in improving maternal health outcomes.
- Enhanced provider capacity and facility readiness to deliver G-ANC as a routine model of care.
- Contributed to national policy discussions on integrating group-based antenatal care into Kenya’s maternal health service delivery framework.
