Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented by ICRHK in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD), and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, Moi University, Technical University of Mombasa, and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, the Performance Monitoring for Action (PMA) Project, formerly PMA2020—advanced Kenya’s capacity to collect, analyze, and use real-time data on family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
Conducted in 11 counties (Bungoma, Kakamega, Kericho, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kitui, Nairobi, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, and West Pokot), the project used household and facility surveys to generate dynamic panel and cross-sectional data that informed program performance and policy action.
Impact
Through this initiative, ICRHK and partners:
- Produced high-quality, programmatically relevant data on family planning and reproductive health to guide national and county decision-making.
- Promoted active data use by policymakers, health managers, and development partners for evidence-based planning.
- Strengthened Kenya’s capacity to maintain a sustainable, innovation-driven data collection platform aligned with global standards of quality, accountability, and business management.
