HIV/AIDS & STI

Maisha project is implemented by ICRHK in collaboration with Ghent University, University Hospital, and the Ministry of Health with funding from the European Commission. The Project demonstrates and tests interventions to improve the health of women and children in Kenya’s Coast Province. Implemented in Mombasa and Kwale counties, the project focuses on reducing mother-to-child transmission of HIV by providing a package of available, affordable, and effective interventions within maternal and child health services.

Impact

  1. Conducted a comprehensive situation analysis to inform targeted interventions.
  2. Provided nevirapine to HIV-positive mothers and their infants to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
  3. Strengthened antenatal care, maternity services, postpartum care, and family planning within the continuum of care.
  4. Enhanced maternal and child health service delivery, contributing to improved health outcomes for women and children in the coastal region.
