International Centre for Reproductive Health – Kenya (ICRHK), in partnership with the Population Council and the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP), implements this study in Mombasa County with funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

The overall objective is to design, implement, and evaluate a community-based risk reduction strategy for HIV-positive individuals not receiving ART. Specifically, the study:

• Assesses the effectiveness of a risk reduction prevention strategy delivered by community health workers (CHWs) for HIV-positive persons not on ART.
• Evaluates the acceptability and feasibility of offering home-based HIV testing for intimate partners and family members of HIV-positive individuals through CHWs.

Impact
The study generated critical insights into community-driven approaches for HIV prevention. It demonstrated the potential of CHWs to effectively deliver risk reduction strategies and expand access to HIV testing at the household level. These findings informed community-based programming and policy discussions on extending HIV services beyond health facilities to reach vulnerable populations not yet enrolled in treatment.
