ICRHK, with funding from USAID through FHI and the International Partnership for Microbicides, is implementing a survey to assess the impact of the IMPACT peer education intervention on the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among female sex workers in Mombasa County.
The study also evaluates changes in HIV and STI prevalence, knowledge, attitudes, sexual behavior, exposure to the peer education program, health-seeking behaviors, and risk factors for HIV infection compared to baseline.
Impact
- Reduced transmission of HIV and STIs among female sex workers.
- Demonstrated positive changes in HIV and STI prevalence.
- Improved knowledge, attitudes, and sexual behavior in the target population.
- Increased health-seeking behaviors for STI services.
- Validated peer education as an acceptable and effective intervention.
- Generated critical evidence on HIV incidence and key risk factors to inform targeted interventions and policy strategies.
