Funded by UNFPA and implemented by International Centre for Reproductive Health Kenya (ICRHK) in partnership with the Kilifi County Department of Health Services, the First Time Young Mothers (FTYM) Project was established to demonstrate best practices in providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH), maternal, and child health care to adolescent girls and young women aged 15–24 years experiencing their first pregnancy. The project is based at Mtwapa Health Centre, a level two government facility in Kilifi South Sub-County, and serves as a model for adolescent-responsive maternal health service delivery.
Impact Through this initiative, ICRHK and partners:
- Enhanced access to youth-friendly SRH, maternal, and child health services for 1,300 first-time young mothers
- Improved health-seeking behaviors, parenting skills, and peer support among adolescent and young mothers.
- Generated a scalable model for adolescent-responsive maternal health programming adopted by county and national stakeholders.
