ICRHK, in partnership with the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP), Family Health International (IMPACT), and Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), is conducting a study in Mombasa County to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the female condom in reducing unprotected sex among sex workers.
The study, funded by FHI, aims to provide policymakers with evidence to guide decisions on whether the female condom should be more widely disseminated. The research specifically measures the impact of introducing the female condom into an existing male condom education and distribution system, focusing on consistent condom use with all partners among female sex workers.
Impact
- Increased consistent condom use among sex workers in Mombasa.
- Provided evidence of the cost-effectiveness of the female condom.
- Supported policy considerations for wider dissemination of the female condom as part of HIV prevention strategies.
