Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented by International Centre for Reproductive Health -Kenya (ICRHK) under the Performance Monitoring for Action (PMA) initiative, the Agile Gender Women Survey was conducted to deepen understanding of gender dynamics, contraceptive use, and gender-based violence among women of reproductive age in Kenya. Implemented in Kiambu, Bungoma, Kakamega, and West Pokot counties.
The project completed five waves of data collection: four involving the Youth Reproductive and Development Social Study (YRDSS) cohort and one cross-sectional survey with women of reproductive age.
Impact
Through this study, ICRHK and partners:
- Tracked changes in contraceptive use and determinants since 2019, providing insights into evolving reproductive health behaviors.
- Assessed gendered social, economic, and safety impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Examined trends and help-seeking patterns in gender-based violence and gender equity norms among youth and women across diverse settings.
- Advanced measurement innovation and validation for gender and GBV indicators, informing broader national and global research on gender equity and reproductive health.
