Funded by USAID and implemented by International Centre for Reproductive Health–Kenya (ICRHK) in collaboration with Jhpiego under the MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) Project, the Ministry of Health, County Governments of Mombasa, Nairobi, and Homa Bay, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), this study sought to assess the extent of disability inclusion within Kenya’s FP/RMNCAHN programs and service delivery systems.
Conducted across Nairobi, Mombasa, Homa Bay, Meru, Makueni, and Kakamega counties, the study generated crucial insights into policy, service readiness, and the lived experiences of persons with disabilities in accessing equitable health services.
Impact
Through this study, ICRHK and partners:
- Reviewed national policies and strategiesto determine the level of disability integration within FP/RMNCAHN frameworks.
- Assessed health facility readinessto provide inclusive, high-quality reproductive, maternal, and child health services to persons with disabilities.
- Explored lived experiencesof persons with disabilities to identify barriers and facilitators to accessing FP/RMNCAHN services, including decision-making dynamics.
- Engaged healthcare providers, policymakers, and OPDsto document current practices and propose approaches to strengthen disability-inclusive care.
- Developed actionable recommendations and best practicesto enhance facility preparedness and promote equitable access to FP/RMNCAHN information and services for persons with disabilities in Kenya.
