Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented by ICRHK in collaboration with George Washington University and Northwestern University, the Social Network Analysis (SNA) Project was a qualitative study launched in March 2017 to explore how social norms and network dynamics influence the adoption of modern contraceptive methods in rural Kilifi County. The study built on insights from the Performance Monitoring and Accountability (PMA2020) survey, examining how social relationships shape reproductive health decision-making and behavior among women of reproductive age.
Impact
Through this study, ICRH-Kenya and partners:
- Deepened understanding of how social networks and community norms affect contraceptive uptake.
- Generated evidence to inform behavior change communication and community engagement strategies for family planning programs.
- Contributed to global learning on the role of social influence in advancing reproductive health outcomes.
