Funded by the European Union’s Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) and implemented by ICRHK, ICRH-Belgium, and the HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies of Columbia University, the Boresha Project assesses the feasibility of conducting HIV prevention interventions at entertainment venues in Mombasa and Mtwapa, in Mombasa and Kilifi counties. Using both qualitative and quantitative approaches, the project is structured as a multi-level risk-reduction intervention tailored to the local context, informed by theory and prior work.
Impact
- Examined the socio-cultural context influencing risk behavior among key populations.
- Explored beliefs and understandings of HIV risk, as well as barriers and facilitators to risk reduction.
- Piloted HIV prevention interventions at entertainment venues to assess feasibility and community response.
- Generated evidence to inform locally relevant HIV prevention programming and intervention design.
